Here’s what to do if you spill water on your laptop:
- Turn off your laptop immediately.
Water and electronics don’t mix so it’s important to turn off your laptop as soon as possible.
- Unplug all of the cables.
Once your laptop is turned off unplug all of the cables.
This includes the power cord any USB cables and any other cables.
- Remove the battery.
If your laptop has a removable battery take it out.

Once you’ve unplugged all the cables and removed the battery (if possible) flip your laptop over so that the keyboard is facing down.
- Use a towel to soak up the water.

- Dry your laptop.
Once you’ve soaked up as much water as you can set your laptop in a dry safe place.
If possible open up the laptop so that it can dry out more quickly.
- Let your laptop dry for 24 hours.
Don’t turn on your laptop until it’s completely dry.
This could take up to 24 hours so be patient.
- Check for water damage.
Once your laptop is dry turn it on and see if it’s working properly.
If you notice any water damage such as water spots on the screen or keyboard you’ll need to take it to a professional for repairs.
